Our Mission

The mission of the Future For Fish Program, implemented under the Farm Animal Protection Association (Çiftlik Hayvanlarını Koruma Derneği, ÇHKD), is to deliver lasting, systematic, and measurable improvements in fish welfare across Turkey’s aquaculture
and fisheries sector.

In line with this mission, we aim to

  • Reduce as much as possible the suffering experienced by fish that are farmed, caught, or sold in Turkey.

  • Create long-term and sustainable transformations within the sector to improve fish welfare.

What Do We Do?

The Future For Fish Program aims to create concrete, measurable, and lasting change in fish welfare. We are committed to implementing science-based and systematic reforms aligned with global best practices.

In this context, we develop solutions to reduce the suffering fish experience throughout production and the supply chain by working in collaboration with:

  • International scientists

  • Producers, suppliers, and buyers

  • International NGOs and networks

How Do We Work?

We conduct regular field visits and observe production processes on site.
We translate scientific knowledge into practical and accessible approaches that the sector can implement.
We share our knowledge and experience through trainings, meetings, and events.
We aim to become a reliable, transparent, and evidence-based reference point for fish welfare in Türkiye.

International Recognition

As a program of the Farm Animal Protection Association (ÇHKD), Future For Fish was evaluated by Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) in 2024 as one of the world’s most effective animal advocacy organizations.
